Blanton's Barrel Aged Maple Syrup

You’re going to think I’ve gone off the deep end … Bourbon Maple Syrup? He’s reviewing Bourbon Maple Syrup? To which I reply – yes. Yes, I am.

It’s Not Just for Breakfast

This past Christmas, my daughter gave me an incredible gift – a bottle of Blanton’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup. It. Is. Incredible.

A quick search of Amazon will take you to a number of fine bourbon syrup products. I’ve tried Crown Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup, purchased at a grocery store, and while it was fine, it didn’t carry that true, bourbon flavor to the finished product.

Blanton’s syrup spares nothing. Sourced from Brubaker’s Acres in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, owners Ashley and Ryan Brubaker have created an artisan crafted maple syrup. The 2nd Batch of this special product has just been released. Ten “wet” Blanton’s bourbon barrels are filled with pure maple syrup and aged over six months. The result is a delightful product with classic Blanton’s notes.

The Tasting

This bottle was priced at $48 [gulp] for a 15oz bottle. My label indicated it was bottle 21 from Barrel B from 2018. There is no ABV percentage or age statement on the label.

Eye: Dark amber – like pure maple syrup.

Nose: This one has DEFINITELY been aged in a very good bourbon barrel. The smell of bourbon is on the forefront, along with more vanilla and caramel aromas.

Palate: Like bourbon barreled maple syrup! There are notes of smooth and flavorful Blanton’s, along with more vanilla, caramel and butterscotch.

Finish: Rich and creamy with more vanilla and butterscotch notes, and a warming finish.

Overall: This is pancake syrup, right? $48 pancake syrup? Seriously, though, this is really good syrup. This is worth a taste just to say you’ve had some. It will blow the socks off of other bourbon barrel-aged syrup products. Hats off to Ashley and Ryan for a truly unique product.
